I LOVE HIM SO much but he is 12 should I pursue things with him or not?

Recommended Posts

I'm a 21 year old male who just got his own apartment and has a good paying job. I'm very mature and responsible for my age.
Lately, I've been a little lonely and decided I needed someone in my life for me to love.
Well, I found him. I met him while doing some volunteer work at the local shelter. He is a very cute golden retriever who is playful and well behaved but he is 12 years old and I'm afraid he is pretty old.
I'm afraid if I adopt him he won't have a very long life with me and I will be heartbroken.
What should I do? I love him so much, and have grown very fond of him but since he is 12, should I pursue things with him or keep looking?

The shorter time together can wear on the heart, but the memories and knowing you made his last few years ones with love might be a little bit of a comfort for you when it's time to say goodbye.

I've had to let 4 different animals go over the last year due to age related illness, and it's tough, but the memories I have are priceless. I don't regret the pain of missing them because it comes from love.  It isn't easy, but I believe it is worth it.

However this turns out, I'm glad that you two have met each other and at least have that together.

Good luck

I wouldn't start my first dog experience with a dog that will die in a short matter of time.  Let a veteran dog owner adopt that dog. Get a dog young like you so you can grow up together, if you're lucky you'll have him till your 30's.

Senior dogs need love and homes as well. Celebrate the time you do have together because that's what matters. When they pass celebrate the memories you made.

You start with "I LOVE HIM SO MUCH" but then ask if you should take it.

It's not love if you're asking that question. Either that or you're incredibly selfish.

dont be so selfish and take him until he dies... or do you really want your ego to block the love with the dog ?
