TBC Update & Restoring 2017 Characters!

Recommended Posts

As someone who was here since the start of the original Elysium realm, who saw the Nost merge that disbanded the guild I was in and permanently separated me from dozens of friends by renaming all of us, and who eventually had their characters taken away right as they were starting to make new friends -- I want to explain that this news isn't going to magically revitalize the community with a flood of returning players. I'm personally extremely apprehensive of returning now when I feel any characters I spend time and effort into leveling could arbitrarily be shelved again at the slightest whim. I could have rerolled at any point but I was too afraid it would happen to those characters at some point as well. My trust was broken not once but twice, with no warning. No warning so we could not fill our bags with loot, but no warning for us to collect contact info for our friends, either. The windows were far too short for that.

I wouldn't expect even a third of recovered characters to be played, to be completely honest. These restored characters will be renamed and socially cut off just as they were when the Nost merge happened. There is a niche for people to want to play these restored characters, but I assume most people who stuck around have already replayed those exact same classes to even higher levels.

I apologize for showing up just to be negative, but I'm afraid I won't be rerolling with you guys until the BC launch, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that sentiment. As strange as this sounds, you might want to consider a fresh BC realm with all the vanilla raids open at the start -- that's the only thing that's really going to pull in members like me who left when faced with rerolling as our only option.

Before we get some exact numbers on how a merge would convert the existing economy on the server i can't say yes or no, personally.

I would love more players online, but if everybody brings 2k + gold ( i know 2k aint much for many people, but if 100++ players rejoin the server, the gold mass is just gonna be insane). The same goes for materials.. If we get a lot of mats on, the prices will drop, and if the amount of gold is inflated, it's gonna be next to impossible for new players and people who only just ding, to get enchants, items etc.

So to sum up, i have some concerns, but if those can be handled in a manner that everyone can agree on, then i'm more than up for a merge!

Delete all consumables and mats, and only return a small percentage of gold per character (~25%).

I have been thinking about this, and I am totally in favor of it, but you should only restore characters to currently active accounts, and restore others on a request basis, This doesnt flood the server with new players from LH that only want to come back and taunt or belittle the current playerbase for not going to LH!

Alot of the characters that were stolen are there, and people are playing them, to have those same characters restored here invites trouble. MY old characters are there, and I wont play there, total loss because of something I had no control of.

I cant wait to at least get my higher level characters back, but not at the cost of of potential harassment.

We have a nice community now, and I would hate to see it destroyed by griefers.

Nighthaven is planned to stay vanilla. The TBC server would be a choice if you want to move over.

I would definitely welcome the merging of old characters. Hopefully they are included in this, but I had a pair of mid level toons on Anathema I was leveling around summer 2017. I'd love the chance to merge them.

We are looking into the idea of merging the other realms also as we progress further.  You do have a fair point about the patch difference for sure, and it is something we could possibly consider, but the entire idea of these realms being open for transfer is still up for debate at this time. Your input is much appreciated, thank you.

As the 60s I have were on the PVE server, I would personally prioritize them.

Question: when do you plan on implementing the availability of ANY restored characters?

As far as the merge and renaming-

I just came back to Elysium to find out it was now Nighthaven, and went to reroll some of my old toons with the same names/race/class/etc.
When the characters are brought over, can we opt to just have the Nighthaven version overwritten? I'm perfectly okay with losing a lowbie in the starting area to be replaced by one halfway through progression.

There wont be any overwriting, they already said earlier in the thread they will be flagged for name change as current characters retain the name.

IMO, after the old characters have been restored, mail anything you value from the current characters to one character, Delete your current characters, then rename your old characters to their original names....

Yes, I'm absolutely for this idea. I had a 36lvl character and I'd love to start playing again. I wouldn't play from the start though, so that's some amazing news!

I would LOVE to get my old character back. Its the only reason I'm actually waiting to start again.

So for what it's worth I'm all for the character restorations.

What I would find important is that you, as you mentioned, keep track on the gold, materials etc, so that it cant be abused in any way.

Best regards, Danken

Is there any preliminary date when (if) the transfer will be made? I know it's in the phase of discussion but it really got me excited. I was about to wait till 2019 for TBC launch so that I could continue with my lost character, now it's so much closer :)

It's no longer in the phase of discussion ^^ They have hinted at within the first days of the week, or atleast within the week. :D They haven't given us a specific moment to look forward to yet tho. :(

I literally check this every day, I spent a lot of time enjoying the old school pve and leveling and want my GNOME BACK!!!!! the only gnome i ever rolled, and i stuck with him. QUESTION, if i made characters with the same name as my old characters, WOULD i be able to delete them prior to the transfer and reclaim the names that i am currently using (and not playing though, name holders*) for my transferable character?????
