Fresh server last makes absolutely no sense

Recommended Posts

The Vanilla WoW gaming community has ever been plagued by one problem: the selfishness and shortsightedness of its leaders who administrate the servers. In the end all they care about is what they want and what their small group of friends wants and the community will always suffer. With them, the Vanilla experience isn't for fun, it's for a sick nostalgia that gives them false validation for their life failures. It exists to be their "safe space" where they have status that they failed to achieve in real life.

I hope Elysium will break the mold.

I have to disagree with you here. Pushing the fresh new server to last opened makes all the sense in the world. We are not talking months. My guess is that the Fresh PvP realm will open on January 7th. That is just 4 weeks. You've waited this long .. 4 more weeks is nothing.

Also by doing this it ensures some of the integrity of the old server's population. If you opened up the fresh server with the old servers it would be too tempting for a lot of players to jump ship. This could cause not only a bad over population of the new server but a possibly significant loss on the old realm. Now maybe THIS WHOLE POST IS just another TROLL attempt but doing it this way is the best way since they have decided to keep the old accounts.

I was and AM a fan of starting with all clean realms. This would have ensured the most balanced population. Letting everyone and all their friends be at the same place. This , however is not what they decided. I can certainly understand all the players who had worked hard on their characters not wanting to lose their progress. You get attached to your characters. I know I still am attached to Faithdriven my 100 priest but I don't play retail wow anymore.

So your argument is that everyone should be forced to roll on the old server because if a fresh server was opened at the same time the old one wouldn't have enough to survive?

Do you see how this thinking falls exactly into what I already said about the reasoning for the "old server first" side?

I feel nothing personal in it in anyway.  I get the feeling you don't truly understand the scope of pop we're talking about.  The fresh realm opening last, is the absolute best-smartest-most professional thing that could be done.  You would have to go through the Nost crashes to understand how big a deal it is.  This is about distributing the pop.

This has been presented over and over again.  You need to just wait.  go play on some other realm for a bit.  Honestly a month isn't long at all.

Bingo. If it weren't for those of us who were on Nostalrius there wouldn't be this project, and most of the people complaining about the fresh server coming last probably would have never even heard of legacy. There's a fresh server coming, that's fine, but that's bonus at the end.

This project is about returning what was stolen from us.

What was really stolen from you?

Your purple colored text and pretty icons, or a community of people that would last for years to come and possibly inspire a change in the gaming industry?

LMAO this guy is trolling because honestly these responses are horrid and show very little thought.

I'll tell you what Aristotheron. Why don't you go play somewhere else. That may solve your problem altogether. :)

You are just repeating your opinion over and over again with no reasoning. If you know what you're talking about, instead of making the same post over and over again, why don't you engage in the conversation and present the argument.

Like I said, it's not about what I want. It's about what will foster the best community. I assumed that people cared about the community, but it seems like the most active people only care about getting what they want and fighting with anyone they perceive as a threat to that.

?

No one is forcing you to roll on either of the old servers. The only thing you're being forced to do is wait for the fresh server for longer than you wold like. And the results are hilarious.

I'm being quite serious. Do you have any rebuttal or do you just want to pretend like you still have a point even though what you said was refuted absolutely?

The fact that you are asking this question proves you never played on Nostalrius. You just don't get it.

Because apparently all you know is pettiness and greed and you don't care about anyone but yourself and what you want, I have to say this again:

We want a big community in order to have a dynamic, interesting, and fun gaming and social experiences, and that means we need to be welcoming to newcomers. We need to ensure the newcomers have the best possible experience so they stay around and recommend the game to others.

By deprioritizing the fresh server, you are deprioritizing newcomers and the stability of the community.

You are enforcing that the old players should be superior to the new players forever, which I believe is the entire point for you.

New players who are excited to start playing will not have the same opportunities to make their mark on the server. They will have to follow the lead of the already established people and not have the chance to carve their own way through the content.

"Old server first" ensures that new players will not be able to compete with old players and that they will not have the same incentives to plant roots into our community. It kills the leveling hype. It creates an unnatural situation where players will be coming back with their same character but totally different guilds. It creates technical challenges of having too much content to provide support for all at once. It's just a bad idea that doesn't make any sense.

Do you understand? The community gets weaker by centering it around the past. The community is not just what it was, it is what it will be. With all the publicity surrounding Nostalrius, the old are likely to be in the minority. Why can't you admit that what is better for most is better for all in this case? All you have to do is play the game you supposedly enjoy playing.

My response to your clear idiocy is this.

NO!! You are not forced to roll anywhere. This is the REAL GENIUS PART... So pay attention.

You can play on any server you like. Get it???

So put on your big boy pants and chill out and wait until January 7th.

How hilariously succinct. If anyone is owed anything it's old Nost players (and I'm not even saying we are), not the people who read a story on IGN and want to pretend like they were there. They didn't lose anything when Nost went down, they just want to act like they're a part of it.

I can see both sides of the argument. I actually thought the OPs initial statement made a lot of sense. But looking at the big picture, the new server will only be a short time away from the old servers, I think with a little patience everybody will get what they want in the end. If nothing else the release of the old servers first will give them a chance to work out some bugs before the fresh server comes out. Hang in there folks, it'll all be ok.

Again, this is not about me getting what I want. I have level 60s on nostalrius. I don't care about them.

This is about what is good for the community.

Not everyone is like you and only argues to get what they want. Some people care about others and the common experience you share.

I see your perspective here, friend, but let me add my 2 cents:

1) First and foremost, everything we are so hyped about atm DOES actually happen because of the Nostalrius Begins veterans or "old players" if you like. While not considering myself one of them (I have barely levelled to 50ish on the PVE realm before the server got shut down), I still believe they deserve more respect than all the hypetrain kids constantly bitching about the release delay. Not trying to say they are superior as people, but surely more important to the community. Let me stress it once more - they are the cornerstone of this awesome legacy thing we are experiencing now! And the haters/hypers will be gone in several weeks anyway. Also, it's enough to go through a few threads in here to find out who is who - the manners say it all.

2) Secondly, I believe the main point behind the new server release is not to force newcomers into competition with BWL-geared people. We just have to wait a few more weeks to get equal chances, no overgeared gankers, progression from the start. I'm rolling a new char myself and would love to do it in a fresh realm, but while waiting for it, I'm gonna check out the PvE one when it's released and maybe find a new home. Still, nobody forces you to play on Nostalrius servers, you just need a bit more patience.

It's funny. It's not like retail wow opens new servers all the time. But mah progression. The community is dead... Well it's true but I'm pretty sure the reasons have nothing to do with the fact that the servers aren't fresh. And retail certainly cares literally zero for the fact that new people are mere years behind on progression from those that have been there forever. Nost closed and we were still only in BWL. You know how fast a new person could be geared up and ready for AQ? If they were motivated it would only be a couple of months.

Scientifically average intelligence means half of all people are below average. This thread absolutely proves it.

Your argument is pathetically weak. You're trying to propose that the resurrection of the Nost servers will be doomed to failure by releasing the Nost servers first. You argue that all the publicity will fail if there isnt a fresh server for newcomers to start on first. There would be no newcomers, no publicity to feed off of if the original Nost servers weren't excellent products. Therefore, releasing the Elysium PvP server first would make very little sense for the supposed community you speak of. There would be no actual frame of reference for the quality of the Nost product. The Nost realms releasing first allows the, obviously by your implications so far, hundreds of thousands of newcomers to get a look at the product from the old servers before they dive into the new fresh server. Trust me, a ton of hype will be built from the time Nost relaunches until the fresh server is released.

Stop trying to mask your selfish, incoherent, asinine argument for the fresh server first with concern for the community. It's very translucent.

I too share the disappointment of having to wait longer. I'm sure that the fresh server will not be delayed by "months", as you claim. Be patient, the wait will be over before you know it.

Maybe I'm not making it clear, but the hype is not a bad thing. It's a very, very good thing. There's no reason to look down on any newcomer as being a "hypetrain kid".

This is a chance to establish a monolith in the gaming community in general and to effect change in the industry.

Do you want to play vanilla wow forever? Or do you want some one to come along some day and make something that is an honest-to-god improvement over it?

The only way that is going to happen is if the full potential for support for this kind of gaming is realized. And that means extending a very sincere welcome to the "hypetrain kids" and everyone else who is new.
