New to all things vanilla

Recommended Posts

Okay, kind of. I played vanilla back in the day but am sooo new to this today. I have just one question for now.

1.) Should I start playing now on Ely? Or should I wait for the Nost servers to come out. I don't want to roll a new character for no reason if it's just going to get lost when the servers go live.

Already have the client and I'm ready to roll when servers go live.

Thanks everyone!

Nost servers are launching first. Both PvP and pve Nost servers are launching the 17th. The elysium/freshould start sever will be launching some time after that. No date yet. I'm guessing after the successful launch of the Nost servers they will give a date for the Elysium server.

I think to answer your concern a little better, the Elysium server is not active right now. They saved it and shut it down in preperation for the merge with the Nost PvP server. All toons from Elysium will be merged with the old Nost server, and the new Elysium server will be the fresh server.

So no need to worry, you can't create any characters until the 17th anyway.

Hope that helps.

Is there any drawback to creating a new character on either of the Nost servers? Or even on the Elysium server right now? Or is it best for someone brand new to this gig to just wait and start fresh on the Ely fresh start?

Not really, it might make sense to create a character on the PvE server on the 17th to start leveling there and gain some experience in Vanilla. Then once the fresh server comes out you could start a character there as well. If you can't handle the amount of PvPing you could always resort back to the PvE server. I would not recommend the old PvP server to start with, as there will be a lot of high levels waiting to gank you.

So you think rolling a new toon on the 17th, on the PVE server is good? Sweet. Now, the fresh start, is it going to be PVP or PVE? Or is this not known yet.

It will be PvP and released some weeks after the Nost PvP/PvE servers go up on the 17th. Currently there are no servers up.

There's no right or wrong answer on which server you should roll on. The fresh start will have no 60s and the economy will be a little different, the existing Nost servers will have better representation 1-60 and a more established economy with higher inflation. I know Athena warned against the old PvP server, but for me the ganking and frustration is part of vanilla, your mileage may vary. Also, the old Nost PvP is my home server so I'm biased.

I recommend you roll on the fresh server. The opportunities you'll have there, leveling at the same pace as everyone else are different than the ones you might find on the old servers. Plus, you get a shot at the Talisman. But hey, roll wherever you think will suit you best, as long as you have fun it's a success.

What is this Talisman?

Yes, an item slightly better than Amulet of Foul Warding and has limited use. Gives an orb around your toon like the shaman lightning shield or Ungoro crystal spire.

It's not about what it is, it's about it's rarity. Would you not like to be the person to get this if you rolled on fresh?

It would be a good idea to get onto a vanilla server now, just to set up addons and things like that.

will save you some time for when the real fun begins!

Smart suggestion, get your addons and UI set up now so you can hit the ground running

Good recommendation, I also heavily suggest you do this. Try the addon section of this forums, I personally recommend this UI -link-.

Well this is a pretty easy one to answer if you ask me.

If you haven't touched anything vanilla since 2004, roll the fresh PvP server.

You will experience everything then, from start to finish. (assuming we dont get shut down again!)

The only thing you should consider is your leveling process, if you don't like threat in the open world, then go PvE server instead. They aren't so far into the timeline either.

Your validation is now for an item that is only good for 3 fights in the game.   Yeah the orb thing is good, but other items give you the same effect for more damage :).   Rare is one thing, rare and useful is another.

This is True. I Agree 100%

Just because you own it doesn't mean you have to use it. Same as having a life-sized Darth Vader in your bedroom. Useful? No. But it's damn awesome.
