Your First Death

Recommended Posts

While we wait for Saturday, I figured we could go over some memories of starting out playing so many years ago. I've seen some awesome early screenshots posted, but what about when you FIRST started?

Do you remember your first death? Or your most memorable early death due to being a noob?

For me (started early BC) I rolled a Draenei Shaman first because my friends were all Alliance. I was just barely outside the starting area near the river, and as they'd explained to me yellow mobs won't attack you, I took a break and afked there. When I came back I was dead. They helped me figure out what happened and it turns out it was one of the stealthed blood elf scouts (who dropped the coveted blood elf mask) buuuut due to me not understanding and some miscommunication, they ended up thinking I was flagged somehow and it was an actual blood elf that killed me and explained how to make sure I wasn't flagged.

I spent the next few hours paranoid I was going to get ganked again and not 100% positive if I was going to flag myself on accident again. I just knew that elf was waiting for me behind every tree!

*** As a bonus, I also remember my introduction to Stitches. Standing in the road to Darkshire, I saw the red text and people shouting, and I just stood there facing the town wondering what was going on. And then I was dead.

The earliest memory of dying is wow is from aggroing a skull level wolf from duskwood with my newly created warrior. Yikes, i quickly forgot that character

I don't have a screenshot but it was Hogger that killed me first. Not knowing at the time that elite mobs were harder to kill :P

Was 10 years ago, but I'm pretty sure my first death was from jumping off the tree in Shadowglen,

followed by getting killed in the spider cave and again in Starbreeze.

And multiple times trying to solo the Relics of Wakening quest.

And probably by Oakenscowl as well.

Not trying to sound like I'm all hard or anything, but, I never really paid too much attention to when and where I died first, or at any time really in WoW. There is virtually no penalty for death, and coming from EQ1 it was not even a worry.

Again, not saying I'm some awesome hard core gamer, but, if you're really old school, you know what I'm talking bout.

When I first played i must have been 11 or 12 in vanilla.

I initially rolled a Human Paladin after reading through all the class descriptions on the old website. The idea of being a warrior'ish class with healing was really exciting, sounded great for a noob like me at the time.

The initial leveling was really slow, I don't know how long it took, probably a week before reaching level 10-11. At this time I was itching to see another zone and move into westfall. I know i was geared to the teeth in the best whites i could buy from the vendors.

My memory is hazy, as all i remember about this character at this point is getting mercilessly slaughtered by the harvest golems in a field for one of the early westfall quests. I would literally kill one with 5% hp and 0 mana left, or i would die. I think at this point i was unsatisfied with my decision to roll paladin and tried out another class. To this day, that character is still sitting in westfall, pondering his life decisions.

My first death was by one of the first kobolds outside the human starting point. I hadn't realized my chat box was open and i had 1's and 2's spammed into it as i died and noticed it was open.

haha This one's hilarious because I've done that even rather recently. Not a big deal questing now, but last time I did it was in a BG so I got blasted before I realized why my spells weren't working.

Not my first death, but the first death I ever saw, back in February of 2005 was in Shadowglen. I was like level 4 I think, with the quest to go up and talk to the druid trainer.

My friend and I were near the bottom of the ramp. He's telling me that when I go up, to watch out for a couple places on the walkway where you could fall through and maybe die. I tell him: "Thanks, I'll be careful."

As soon as I hit enter on my chat, some night elf dude comes falling out of the tree right between us and craters with the good old night elf death cries. Freaked the hell out of me.

I remember logging out somewhere in Elwynn and then being dead when I logged back in.

Apparently logging out for more than a few minutes in an area with aggressive mobs will kill you.

My very first character was an orc shaman. On level 2 or 3 I managed to wander outside the Valley of Trials and die to a scorpid. I was sent to the graveyard in Razor Hill and I didn't understand you could run back to your corpse (who even reads the instruction book?) so I ressurected with the angel. Now I was even further from VoT. It was a quite confusing (and in my mind, unforgiving) start but I'm glad I kept playing.

Before I joined the server that my friends were on I made it to ~ level 11 on a priest by mainly meleeing everything in the area. I'm pretty sure it was the furbolgs in the north east that all grouped up on me for my first death

The only thing I remember about my first death was being stoked when I turned into a ghost on release. Hadn't seen a ghost character since playing UO.

Deaths in EQ were memorable. WoW death penalty is non-existent, one aspect that the genre lost with EQ that I wish would return.

Whilst I don't remember my first death, I do remember the first quest that caused multiple corpse runs.  Between Dolanaar and Darnassus is the Ban'ethil Barrow Den.  I was sent there by some guy and I HATED him with a passion for doing that.  No idea how many times I died down there but I ran into a few issues with that quest. Obviously the fact I was a complete noob exacerbated the problem.

Killed by alliance attacking crossroads. I thought my level 11 Tauren could somehow turn the tide of the battle =P
