Why the huge gap in population

Recommended Posts

Seems like both PvP servers have way more of a population then the PvE server, seems to be about three times as much... has it always been like this or have a bunch of PvE'rs jumped on the new server bandwagon as well.

The Pve server has a smaller cap and less powerful server. That is also another reason :)

The PvE server is the most blizzlike feeling and atmosphere you could find for vanilla wow.

As other said its a hardware thing but to be honest a cap of 2.5k-3k before shutdown was actually enough. Having it on close to 5-6k sometimes now is probably the max it should be for PvE.

Totally agree. The pvp servers are not Blizzlike as the populations are way to high and the player base way too cancerous.

A lot of people find PvE servers to be boring due to the lack of challenge while leveling. PvP servers are much more appealing thus draw a much bigger crowd. PvE tends to be niche.

There can't be more than 6k online on our PvE server anyways because of hardware limitations. I think right now our pop is in a good spot.

The call is called World of Warcraft = PVP server.    Not World of /Wave-craft = PVE server.

Then it should be called World of Gankcraft or World of Corpsecamp ;-).

Why do PvP players feel the need to ridicule PvE players? Because you can't gank us? Be glad you got your own server where you can do all that stuff.

I would say potato servers in 2004-2006 could not deal with 10k. Some people could not run in crowded places because their game would turn into slide-show with 5 fps.  People always bring  this "not blizzlike population" bullsh1t, but it is actually fun, you meet so many people every day. But of course sometimes it is pure aids when you getting constantly ganked in STV. If you do not like it then join PVE server and grind your quests.

You assume because I play on a PVP server I am a ganker killing lowbies?   I don't got time for that shit.  I'm too busy farming raid consumables, speed running new 60s through 5 mans, and duking it out in Black Rock Mountain.

My PVP playing only extended to my AV rep grind and those interferring with my grinding/farming.  Or that random PVP when a guild is trying to get into a raid instance that you are already outside of.  #FunStuff.

At what point did my statement ridicule you?   It was a factual statement.    The game is called WORLD of Warcraft.   It's in the title of the game.    The basis of territory, faction vs faction, danger, the PVE server takes all of this away, where you can only do emoticons to the characters with yellow over their heads.

You play the game differently when doing anything in the world.   Grinding mobs, you constantly move your camera to check for enemies.   Going to a neutral quest hub, you scope out the area first to see if it is safe for the moment.   Going to raid with world buffs, you stay close together with your guild and move as a group to avoid people being picked off.

Don't try to come at me bro, I didn't flag myself for PVP.       KeK.

PVE doesnt eat your population in Nost or Elys. stop trying to convince people not play here. for some reason PVE servers existed till 2004, for you it might be something stupid for others not.
the way most of you people from PVPservs write its very manipulative without reason. Realm is new and yas we kinda need more people, we dont come to your forums and write "we want more people and leave PVP". we know that you like playing there. dont come to ours and make posts with that attitude

Well you acted like PvE players are not real World of Warcraft players, that's why I assumed you like to make fun of PvE players. PvP happens on PvE servers too, not only in BGs but in the open world too. But here we get to decide if and when we want to do that.

See it's cool that you got the server of your preference and I got mine. In 2004 I too started playing on a PvP server, but it wasn't nearly as crowded as Nost/Elysium. So ganking was a reality but to a far lesser extent. Now I'm older and have limited play time, which I don't want to waste on corpse runs. I actually did start on the old Nost PvP server pre shutdown, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I waited for the PvE realm to be launched and don't regret it.

LOL I am simply answering the OP of the population gap.    Thanks for the compliment of my writing.   Though is you failed to find any reasoning in it, give it another read.

there is no reasoning in that you said and i dont need to find reasons for what i told you. its just a fact. get over it and know that when you write things in public many people take you seriously. and its bad when you discourage someone who wants to play on PVE with the reason " its not blizlike" . cause its a lie

In my opinion Nost PvE was fine before relaunch, we had 4,5k on peaks and that was mostly lvl 60 players. So you could find a group or BG quickly. Now it's full (6k) on peaks so the PvE realm has no problem really.

You play the game differently when doing anything in the world.   Grinding mobs, you constantly move your camera to check for enemies. * do this all the time.. flip on track hidden.. with my hunter.. commonly drop traps at my feet when grinding in case a rogue pops out.. don't ever let my health get too low as I'm an easy target.. et.. *  Going to a neutral quest hub, you scope out the area first to see if it is safe for the moment.   Going to raid with world buffs, you stay close together with your guild and move as a group to avoid people being picked off.

This is a great post and made me think about the PvE server that I'm on. I miss PvP. I run a guild currently on the PvE server and i have that PvP itch all the time. On Kronos II (PVP realm) when I think of my favorite moments they are all pretty much PvP encounters.

Well said.  I have a 60 on the old Nost PvP.  I haven't touched it since months before the shutdown. The PvP servers are cancerous and are nothing like PvP servers in retail vanilla.  There's no casual PvP to be had, just gankers in the world and R14 grinding teams in BGs.

Honestly one of the main reasons I play on the PvE server is for the timeline. It's fresh enough to where it still feels new, but I'm not waiting til almost 2019 to see naxx (assuming everything stays on track with no hiccups). I feel like a lot of people feel this way as well, it's not about being a carebear at all.

Ganking is more than just killing lowbies, m8.

In my experiences on Kronos and old Nost, 99% of my "world pvp" interactions were either:

-being attacked while fighting a quest mob

OR

-being attacked by a group of enemies

OR

-being attacked by someone 7-10 levels higher than me

Very, VERY rarely is world pvp actually a fair fight. 99% of the time, it's one player unfairly taking advantage of another. Getting ganked is not fun or challenging or "hardcore".

I play WoW to have fun, not to be constantly stressed the fuck out, spinning my camera around all the time and watching for enemy players. I don't feel like being treated to a 5 minute corpse run because a 60 riding by decided to stop and 2-shot me. I'm not amused when enemy faction forms gank groups that just run around the zone and ruin everyone's day.

You can have your gank server, nobody is stopping you, go ahead and have fun getting ganked all day and night. Just, don't try and condemn other people and cry "CAREBEAR CAREBEAR" because they don't want to join you in having your time wasted corpse running over and over.

What are current population numbers?

I haven't seen so many active people online at same time for long time, definitely not missing out on anything so far doing only PvE. I wonder however how it will be when leveling wave surges through specific zones.
