Are my Nost characters in danger?

Recommended Posts

Nostalrius have just released a statement saying they are requesting Elysium stop using their data.  Does that mean that if Elysium comply, my Nostalrius characters will cease to be?  I'm a bit confused about the statement to be honest, I'm not 100% sure what they want.  Apparently they have stopped the token system and are talking about Elysium now being a pirate server etc.  What do you make of it?

Statement is here

Well.

Thanks everyone for the ride.

Won't be long until Nost chars are gone again I guess.

Characters are in the Elysium database now... no way they can pull them back - they can, however, deny further transfers (which they already have).

you seriously

literally

think that Elysium is just going to delete everyone's characters because Nost said so?

fucking rofl

The characters are in Elysium's database now. They do not belong to a dead server anymore. They are not "nost data". They're Elysium data.

First off It was never Nost Data.  Nost is just a pirate server like the 100's of others that are available.  They are just full of themselves and need to get off there high horse.  They are not the only hope, they are not some righteous brand. They are pirates just like the rest of them.

Well I don't know how Nost thought the community would take it, but I've seen no support whatsoever for this latest statement.  It seems Nost have just shot themselves in the foot and will looked upon as people who gave renewed hope to the legacy community only to stab them in the back when they got comfortable in their new surroundings.

I sincerely hope Elysium tell them where to get off.

If you can't take the heat then DON'T THREATEN TO DELETE HALF THE 60S ON NOST PVP/PVE

We know that Nostalrius carries the hopes of the legacy community but moving from “fan server” to "pirate server" reputation makes it harder to convince that legacy fans have a place on the WoW community. Until this stigma is removed, it's unlikely any true progress towards official legacy content can be achieved.

They are seriously deluded. No one cares about official legacy servers as long as we have private servers of sufficient quality. What people care about is that the server they're currently investing time in remains available with a healthy community. The reason so many people signed that petition is because it was after the nost shutdown. It was basically a sort of protest vote.

The only people that care about the official legacy servers are the idiots at nost who still think they can Cash in on it.  They care about there pockets, not the community

My primary concern is the fact that the Pastebin, while not their final announcement, is extant.

What I find disconcerting about it is that it appears they've considered deleting transferred characters. To what end? Nostalrius may have generated the data, but it is in no way theirs. The characters may be deleted, but these players aren't going to be strong, fervent supporters of an official legacy servers; they'll simply start anew with a newfound bitterness towards Nostalrius, Blizzard, and the Elysium staff. There is absolutely no benefit.

I only hope that Elysium does what is best for the playerbase and the future of the server, realizing that a betrayal of this size would have a tremendous effect on the server, the population's perception of the staffs intention, and the players themselves that have put hundreds (thousands?) of hours of playtime into their toon.

My 2c.

Maybe they were not prepared for the backlash towards Nostalrius after this announcement.  It hasn't gone down well at all and Elysium could seriously put themselves in a great position here by refusing the request and standing up for the former Nostalrius players, even if it is only 10% of them (yeah right...as if 10%).

instead of strenghthening the vanilla community, theyre ruining ist now.

if ppl are being abused and disappointed as much as its going to happen now, they will probably not return to a private server anymore because theill be too worried this can happen again

I don't think people will look at nostalrius the same way again if this goes through...there about to tear up the community and lose respect.

I think most of us have written off nostalrius at this point, this is a complete betrayal of the entire vanilla community.

The ball is in Elysium court now, there decision is gonna make or break this community.

Would it save our characters, if we suddenly were allowed to transfer them to an Elysium created Realm?

To get some things straight... This is NOT a pirate server. Most people that play had bought and played retail vanilla WoW. The VAST majority have bought and played retail WoW as a whole. They own the copy of that client, thus they are not pirating.

What we NEED to know from Elysium is the answers to these questions:

1. Will all server be shutdown? If not, which ones will stay up?
2. Will all characters be deleted? If not, which ones will stay?
3. Are you greedy enough to accept an obvious under-the-table bribe from Blizzard? So that we don't waste our time on the server for the next few weeks just to see our continued progression be for nothing.

If the Elysium staff could please answer these questions inside of the announcement, and give the span of 2 days for people to comply (send Nost character's held items to a new character if possible) then that would alleviate a lot of tension and provide you with a very loyal and dedicated playerbase upon which you can grow in size, and reputation.

Please remember that the entire stigma behind your private server is propaganda lies started by Blizzard. In 2006, Blizzard took a private server to the U.S. Supreme Court because it had fully copied retail (a few weeks after tBC release, it was a tBC private server) and charged $5 per month as a subscription. It was determined that the lawsuit was successful against the private server because it charged a subscription fee. Donations are not considered forced payment, and any person can donate money to a non-profit organization legally. So Blizzard was not able to continue with their plan by suing the rest of the private servers that were live at the time. That's when Blizzard split each server into two "technical" servers. One that the players connect to that has the terrain, and one in which that server connects to for holding triggers, mob info, patch content, items, etc. (everything else). This server does not require a subscription fee to play, thus it is not illegal (it is legal).

The only way Blizzard can take down private servers is through abuse of power and money. Don't be another one taken down by a greedy company's temper tantrum after they're even told "no" by one of the most corrupt governments in the world.

OP talking about The Rebirth server u all know that?So why we on about kronos and all this other shit lol

Personally Rebirth server was probably one of the best servers out their however it lacked population. My ping their was around 12ms and on elysium it is 42ms.Rebirth was scripted to perfection and not many bugs.No lag.Pvp server. However lack of people since it had around 600 people online...

If everybody rolled their then it would be cool.

I'm the OP and wasn't talking about Rebirth at all.  I suggest you re-read the post.  Or probably don't bother because it's old news now, my chars aren't in danger because Elysium stepped up to the plate.
