Buttallus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 It's 10,000 to 1 odds that Blizz will give us a true legacy server. Here is a blue post from April of 2016: We wanted to let you know that we’ve been closely following the Nostalrius discussion and we appreciate your constructive thoughts and suggestions. [But not enough to let them stay on the Blizzard forums. They get ripped down almost immediately.] Our silence on this subject definitely doesn’t reflect our level of engagement and passion around this topic. We hear you. Many of us across Blizzard and the WoW Dev team have been passionate players ever since classic WoW. In fact, I personally work at Blizzard because of my love for classic WoW. [A lie. If he loved vanilla Wow he'd want legacy servers.] We have been discussing classic servers for years – it’s a topic every BlizzCon – and especially over the past few weeks. From active internal team discussions to after-hours meetings with leadership, this subject has been highly debated. Some of our current thoughts: Why not just let Nostalrius continue the way it was? The honest answer is, failure to protect against intellectual property infringement would damage Blizzard’s rights. This applies to anything that uses WoW’s IP, including unofficial servers. And while we’ve looked into the possibility – there is not a clear legal path to protect Blizzard’s IP and grant an operating license to a pirate server. [A deception. Notice the weasel words "not a clear legal path", rather than "there is absolutely no way to protect Blizzard's IP . . . Also, Blizz wouldn't need to grant a license. A simple waiver by Elysium or other development team to any and all IP rights would take care of that concern. The private servers are operating without a license already; they don't care about a license.] We explored options for developing classic servers and none could be executed without great difficulty. If we could push a button and all of this would be created, we would. However, there are tremendous operational challenges to integrating classic servers, not to mention the ongoing support of multiple live versions for every aspect of WoW. [A bald faced lie and another deception. He might as well have said "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain". All they needed to do was expand the capacity of the Nostalrius. Then the deception, by framing this as an operational challenge to integrating classic servers. However, there is no need to integrate it into the rest of the Wow system at all.] So what can we do to capture that nostalgia of when WoW first launched? Over the years we have talked about a “pristine realm”. In essence that would turn off all leveling acceleration including character transfers, heirloom gear, character boosts, Recruit-A-Friend bonuses, WoW Token, and access to cross realm zones, as well as group finder. We aren’t sure whether this version of a clean slate is something that would appeal to the community and it’s still an open topic of discussion. [If all of those things can be done, then there's no reason why ALL of the nonsense can't be turned off. And what the hell is a "version" of a clean slate? Either it's clean or it isn't. I don't want to see a loot crate bouncing around like there's a hyperactive pixie inside. I don't want to hearth into a major city and wade into a ocean of pets and mounts. I don't want the tank to be able to run into a room and hold aggro on 6 mobs while dps blasts away as fast as they can because he can't lose the aggro, and because they can't run out of mana. I don't want every damn person in the group to have a brez. That's at least part of why we're playing vanilla.] One other note – we’ve recently been in contact with some of the folks who operated Nostalrius. They obviously care deeply about the game, and we look forward to more conversations with them in the coming weeks. [And them subsequently forgetting about them.] You, the Blizzard community, are the most dedicated, passionate players out there. We thank you for your constructive thoughts and suggestions. We are listening. [And laughing, and flipping us off.] J. Allen Brack

Zappa 7 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 It is time to accept the fact that WE are the legacy community that marches forward. WE means the whole Elysium staff and WE the playerbase. WE are playing a game that was originally made by blizzard but this is just a relic of the past. It is time to cut off all ties. The game we are playing has nothing to do with the company that blizzard has turned into. They don´t want legacy servers and i don´t want them to release them! I think it is time to question the "We are providing legacy until blizzard does.." strategy.

But what we got in reality in fact? They got 80% responsibility of hype that elysium had, 80% responsibility for time that people spent on these server. And now they say *blah blah blah, stop playing* trying to ruin time we spent in game to ashes. They just killed their reputation. GTFO nost team, before doing something think twice, people are spending their time because of you. We dont like you anymore ! You will have no place in Valhalla! +100500!

Ivina 1 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 Viper's post is pure non-sense. He provides the Nostalrius core, and all the characters' data to Elysium project, and then change his mind, for what? The post never explicitly give one reason. "Pirate community" rather than "fan community", why? He doesn't give a single reason why would Elysium be more "pirate" than Nostalrius. Harder to achieve Blizzard vanilla server? Why would it be different now than 3 weeks ago? Why throwing all the work of Nostalrius dev's in the garbage bin, as Viper requests, would help to get Vanilla servers from Blizzard? But, people, do you actually think Viper and whoever is with him now, it THAT stupid? There is OBVIOUSLY a hidden reason. I'm even sad to see such a flow of hate posts (mostly on Nostalrius's forum post), because people don't understand. When it is so obvious something has no sense, kids insult, but adults use their brain! To all haters: grow up! What is the true reason? Maybe Viper was aware of decisions of Elysium staff that we are not aware of, or not yet. For example, if Elysium team plan to add a game shop, then all this become more clear. Maybe, and I bet this is the actual reason, Blizzard found a way to put more pressure on the Nostalrius admins, especially those who went to meeting with Blizzard. Then this would be a desperate action from Viper to defend himself against Blizzard's lawyers. In that case, he especially doesn't need such a flow of insults. In that case, we should rather hail for our fallen comrade! It is sad the post doesn't give a word about it, because we don't know if Viper is a fool, traitor, or a hero.

Zappa 7 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 15 hours ago, Zappa said: Their change of mind has to be forced under enormous pressure of Blizzard i guess. This has to be the only explanation. All these insults towards Viper are so hilarious. What would you do with a pen and a paper if somebody put a gun on your head. Viper´s latest statement is definitely pure nonsense but we all should start looking forward and bury Nostalrius. Elysium is our new home!
Erjh8765 19 Report post Posted January 15, 2017 IMO, Viper & Co. got paid/bribed behind the scenes by persons acting on behalf of Blizzard Entertainment in order to pull the rug from under Elysium's feet. Blizzard did this because the project showed a lot of promise and they estimated that later on, and with the addition of Nostalrius' TBC server, the project would be an enormous success which would give Blizzard a PR nightmare. It was going to be Nostalrius Original all over again for Blizzard only the impact it would have would have been 10 times larger., Then, Viper tried to come up with a story that sounded even remotely plausible in order to attempt to deceive at least the halfwits within the Nostalrius/Elysium Community. He failed. Not even the idiots believe him. What I'd do at this stage is copy Nostalrius' core, relabel it, and continue to run it under a different name. Viper and Co. really, really deserve this because they are sell-outs and they betrayed the Nostalrius community for "thirty pieces of silver".

Because here's the thing: I am never going back to retail until they bring in a legacy server, whether they shut down the server or not Blizzard-Activision doesnt miss any money. They had peak player base in WOTLK 11 million players. We have here 30.000-40.000 players...Compare 11 million to this. They will not go back cuz 0.1% of their retail population

They will not go back cuz 0.1% of their retail population You're comparing the number of concurrent players active on a server at the same time (30-40k on Elysium realms) with the number of all active accounts (11million in WOTLK - not sure if these included accounts from asia, which weren't subscription based afaik). Anyway. I think when Nost shut down, they mentioned they had something like 150,000 active accounts. Elysium said they gained 150% more players, which would translate to something like 375k active accounts. This is HUGE, given Warlords of Draenor only had around 5 million subscribers at times - from the figures we know, before they stopped publishing them. So maybe even less subscribers afterwards. And you'd need to exclude a few more for accounts that are subsribed, but haven't logged in in some weeks, to make numbers comparable.
