Sabre, go back to page 3 or 4, there you will find a post where I mention this. The game that I love is vanilla. TBC was okay, but seeing the content there is not as important as it was seeing vanilla content. I will do everything in my power to clear all the vanilla raids, but I don't feel the same about TBC raids. Will I play there if I can transfer my character? Sure, why not, but otherwise I'll gladly focus on something else. Am I really that bad of a person because I like vanilla more than TBC?

Also, it's funny how you are accusing me of being the flamer here while I am actually the one trying to hold a discussion in a civil way, while Sabre at some point just turned his troll mode on and you're saying literally something that I can't understand.
No, I won't go to TBC servers cause if you actually bothered to read my posts, you would know that TBC is not my priority, which is exactly why I said "If I can't transfer my characters, I won't play. I don't find TBC appealing as much as Vanilla.

The main problem with a fresh TBC realm is the faction balance is going to be like 70/30 in favor of horde.  Only non-intrusive way that I can think of to mitigate faction balance is by allowing people to transfer since Alliance players from a vanilla realm was likely stay on Alliance.

With it being patch 2.4.3 Horde is better for most PvP comps.  Up until patch 2.3 it was more evenly balanced because fear ward was still dwarf/human only and was 30 second cooldown / 10 min duration.  In 2.4.3 it's given to all priests and is 3 min cooldown / duration.  If you watched the WSVG  /  MLG tournaments back in TBC where you got to set up fresh characters on a test realm all the RMP's were alliance, comps like WLD usually went horde.

Also ret pallys in raids were pretty much only min/max viable on Horde because Seal of Blood was OP as fuck with good gear and Windfury.

I believe starting a completely new server to implement an expansion could not be considered an emulated experience of "what it was like". But I also sympathize with people who might still want to experience a Vanilla server (especially newcomers). Dividing it into two isolated blizzlike experiences is the fair way.

Take the Vanilla server (or servers) down for maintenance, create a new server with the original's database copied over, apply the TBC expansion to it, and stage that up as a new TBC server. All existing Vanilla data remains there for Vanilla players to enjoy, while players who are looking forward (literally) to TBC now can pick up where they left off and enjoy the expansion.

This is how it was on retail, was it not? Players didn't have an "opt-out" choice there. Their existing characters were thrust out there to deal with the Burning Legion.

But by the same token, players who do enjoy the Vanilla content would then be the ones left behind if there were suddenly no Vanilla server to choose. They would pack up and head over to another community that still offers Vanilla content, bringing with them bad feelings about Elysium and ultimately hurting this project here.

TL;DR:

Vanilla can't be left behind, but I would love to see TBC as well. Keep it blizzlike - take the server, make a copy of it, upgrade it to TBC, and stage them both up separately. Everyone's happy (except maybe Elysium who now doubles their support efforts lol. Increase those donations people! They need you!)

Those who will experience a Vanilla server aren't prone to roll on a old one for a number of reasons:

  1. over-farmed server with too many gold and mats extracted;
  2. not enough people to play with in lower tiers;
  3. since it's a PvP realm, the average player strives to be competitive in terms of gear: if your epics are as common as fresh water because everyone has been  level 60 for 5 months+, you can't work on that.

That's why people don't roll on Anathema and that's why population is declining.

We have to deal with the fact that a realm can't go on forever: wow economy cannot self-balance itself and there'll come a point when the average level of players is 60.

That would be a progression of an existing realm and it's fine because some people have the opinion that "everything but endgame sucks" (which is the same mindset which produced Legion where you reach end-game in hours).

But unfortunately, insta-60 vanilla realms weren't that lucky in terms of population. Also, insta-70 wotlk realms have pop-numbers that we would call here "insignificant".

On the other hand, fresh starts have always been much more appreciated by the vast majority of players for:

  1. fresh economy: you can buy mats and gear for reasonable prices and actively impact the economy;
  2. the feeling of a living world: population distributed in all tiers;
  3. rare items being "rare" for real and epic items giving an uncanny advantage;

See Felmyst and others.

Many players consider leveling to be as entertaining as end-game content when they have the opportunity to interact with a multitude of players and get the feeling of a "living world".

Therefore I would suggest to follow an order of priorities:

  1. open a fresh TBC and let it run for 3/ 4 months as the sole TBC option: it will attract the thousands of new players who joined felmyst in the first place. Also, old vanilla players who want a fresh TBC start will play there.
  2. after 3/4 months, if old realms population doesn't grow (aka new players don't want to "vanilla" in those old things) upgrade them to TBC.
  3. check if there's a strong enough demand for a fresh vanilla and eventually open a new one.

I love Vanilla and I love Elysium! If TBC comes, please let the people choose to play TBC or play her hero in Vanilla.
