Best realm for newbies

Hey,

We're planning to start classic soon with a couple of friends, was wondering what server has the best low-level population? I was thinking Elysium but seeing it's queue it's probably a no-go. Can anyone suggest?

Zethkur then is your place to Go. Case Closed.

Anathema PVP is the oldest server out there but with an awsome community.  The entry and mid lvl zones are not overcrowded like on Zek'hur or Elysium but hve at the same time enough ppl playing in there to complete the elite or group quests with ease.

I would suggest that server beyond all else personally because of that point. When it is overcrowded it just slow down your general leveling progression and experience imo.

I play on all three. I would roll on Zeth if I was new and wanted to start fresh. Elysium is cool too when it's up and there's no queue but can feel a bit crowded. Anathema is full of grumpy old men and is way ahead regarding content. Although also a nice place be. Unless you just want to go AV and AQ as soon as possible I would roll on the newer servers.

I'm on Zeth and it is good. There isn't a mad amount of players and no queue. Or you might try the PvE server if you want to play without all the ganking at first. Most of the players here are very experienced at Vanilla WoW and might be frustrating since they will have an upper hand experience wise.

If you've really never played Classic before, I'd suggest the PvE server, so that you don't have to deal with the frustration of being ganked relentlessly.

If you want open world PvP I suggest Zeth'Kur cause it's a fresh server + normal population. But open world PvP can be pain when you try to level up and try to do your quests.

So if you don't want open world PvP roll on Darrowshire. It's nearly fresh (BWL patch) and normal populated.

Have you and your friends ever played at all?

If the OP and his friends aren't new to WoW and PvP I would suggest the same thing.

First you have to decide if you want pvp or pve server. Pvp server your going to be dealing with come level 30+ high levels ganking you often and there being no safe space other then inside a dungeon. Gathering or playing a non pvp class / spec is going to suck hardcore as well. If you like and are good with all that you want a pvp server but if you don't there is just Darrowshire. Just on a PvE server you won't find much pvp but pvp quite honestly sucked majorly in Vanilla anyways. As far as pvp server their is Zeth which is dieing hardcore and honestly a waste of a server. This leaves for PvP Elysium or Anathema and then its a toss up. Elysium the bigger pop and Anathema being older.

If this is your first time playing vanilla WoW then roll a PvE server. PvP servers generally have more aggressive players in that they'll try to grief anyone regardless of faction (ganking, NPC camping, spawning mobs in quest hubs). Meaning your leveling will be hell unless you know exactly where you're going and what you're looking for.

PvE servers are usually more relaxed and welcoming to newer players.

Thank you all for suggestions! We played TBC and LK for good 5-7 years so we're not beginners. PVE would be OK if you could transfer characters, alas not the case ;/

Zeth sounds pretty good though the population worries me a bit. Are queues in Elysium only a temporary measure against DDOS as #unjkeee said?

Zeth'kur is a good server if you play on primetime, if you play offhours its not in a good state. Elysium has alot of players online 24/7 (if it was up)

If your not looking for a fresh server then their is only a choice of pvp or pve server.

I would never recommend Elysium to new players because many quests are very difficult to accomplish with an overloaded population. There are also thousands of people waiting to kill you on the other faction at all times of the day, and it's awful.

Yes. Zeth'Kur is the place to roll for new players.

Agreed. Zeth'Kur is also more helpful to new players that the other realms.

I don't play on primetime because I am from North America, and Zeth'Kur is actually in a great state. It has 1300-2000 people online at any "off-hour" I play from North America, and that is the perfect Blizzlike amount if they want to play WOW as it was originally intended (with a queue starting at 2500 people, not 5000 like Elysium). Spreading misinformation like this is a bad idea.

Anyhoo, the consensus here is correct: Zeth'Kur is where I'd roll for new players. It isn't as progressed in the game as Darrowshire and Anathema, and there are still new guilds forming all the time. Those realms have had their communities since 2015 and aren't as welcoming as Zeth'Kur, which just started now in 2017. Elysium also started just a week or two before Zeth'Kur but the overcrowded population creates a lot of problems for questing as a lowboy.

I started on Elysium a couple weeks ago, switched to Anathema, and switched again to Zeth'Kur. I finally found a Vanilla WOW server that feels like home!

It's simple.  If you want high pop then Elysium and if you want low pop then Zeth'Kur.  It'll take longer to level on Elysium but when you hit 60 it's easier to find groups for everything.

The ZK population "worries" are a meme that everyone actively makes fun of on ZK. Blizzard Vanilla retail servers in 2004-2006 had a max of 2500 online and in off-hours had more like 700 online. ZK today has 3000 at peak times and 1300-1800 in off-hours, so more than any actual retail Vanilla server ever had. The people talking about "population problems" are usually from Elysium trying to discourage a rival server from its traction, or sometimes ZK players who never played Vanilla when it was retail and don't understand that these realms weren't meant to have more than 3000 people on them at once (because, for example, respawns happen in 4 minutes in Vanilla instead of 20 seconds in Legion).

Elysium had queues before it started going down all the time from DDOS. They claim it's temporary, but Elysium goes down all the time from server instability and overpopulation. It's not always DDOS. Most likely, they'll still have queues in the foreseeable future even if they called them "temporary."

Put it more accurate terms: if you wanted Blizzlike, go Zeth'Kur. If you want an overpopulated, pirate-server feeling, go Elysium. It's easy to group up for anything at level 60 as long as you find a guild. There are plenty of guilds on ZK and Elysium and it only takes one.

Again, I play in off-hours and have never had trouble finding anything I want on ZK. Are you on Oceania (Australia + New Zealand) time or something? It's no problem in North America.

Elysium has 3x the pop of zeth so in off hours I'm just saying a faction pool of 2500 players on ely players vs 800 on zeth is going to make life a lot easier at 60 if you want to pug it.  I'm not saying one is better than the other.  It depends what you want.  It's awesome that we have the choice.

It doesn't make it any easier to be overcrowded really, because the tank-to-DPS ratio remains the same (and very low on both realms).

Im not spreading misinformation. I have a 60 mage on ZK and wsg queue was 45+ mins Eu mornings, i was in the only oceanic guild (horde)  because morning raiding fits me and we only had 15 ppl online out of the 70ish members.

Im now leveling on Elysium with the active players from that guild and in 1 week we have gotten 78 members mostly lvls 30-40.

Ah, I figured you were trying to play on Oceania time. There's little problem in doing anything including raiding and WSG (Alliance-side) from North America or Europe.

That being said, WSG queues are worse on Horde than Alliance
