It's rather difficult to get EVERYone to stop buying gold. Only way we can do that is by being so vigilant on banning everyone involved in gold selling (buyers and sellers) to the point where people know that it's impossible to buy gold without getting banned.

Maybe ask the Chinese community if they're willing to pay for their own server? That wont stop the gold sellers thoug, but it's a start. It will make the server more lively, less laggy and a better community overall instead of having illiterate 'bots' running around.

You have ZERO clue about wtf you are talking about even makes me sad to see people can be this clueless after this long time..
But make it so that no one can use VPN and then start banning gold sellers easy as fk and if someone cannot play without vpn well you see there might be a pretty good reason for that. Also chinese don't understand english at all which destroy the way everything works in wow since they cannot understand me and neither can i.  Make them a server for themselves or just ban them.

people are human, we all make mistakes. People should be allowed a chance to learn.

they are banning people for buying gold, so if they can do that, what harm is done from giving a warning while removing all their gold at the same time?

if enough people get warnings that word will spread and stop others from buying which in turn stops the sellers.

a outright ban is less likely to result in people sharing the story of their warning and does nothing to stop the farmers while at the same time gives a little grace to the players

A warning or a 1 week ban yeah. The gold should definitely be removed because people end up buying things the gold sellers are selling (BoE epics, herbs, consumes) and it's just an infinite money loop.

Whilst I understand what you are saying, how many people are likely to admit that they bought gold when it's already frowned upon by large parts of the community?  How many of those that ARE willing to admit it, would also be willing to admit to getting caught, banned and having the gold removed?

Most people in my opinion would keep it quiet, therefore few people would ever know and as a result there would be no word to spread.

Ban the buyers, ban the sellers, no exceptions, no right of appeal.

I'm with the ban their VPNs and base IP ranges camp.  The fear of DDOS retaliation is ridiculous and defeatist.  I don't care if we lose a few hours  here and there while the demonstrably agile Elysium/Nost team adapt their defenses.  The servers were working admirably on the launch days when they were both being hammered by multiple DDOSes and tens of thousands of impatient players.

I definitely agree that zero tolerance is the only way to go.  Like Everquest said, any grace will be abused.

Real life Asian American here. The Chinese are the main market for gold sellers. The money they receive from non-Chinese is just extra icing on the cake. Don't believe me? Go play a native Asian MMO and see how many people buy gold and sell gold. It's considered normal to do so. So guess what? To kill the gold sellers, you have to kill the gold buyers. It takes quite some criminal energy to get in league with gold sellers.

Maybe I've become quite oldschool over the years, but I have zero patience with gold buyers and other cheating people.

The approach of immediate ban and rebanning by reading out the hardware which they did with Overwatch is the right approached. People act way too entitled in games because: "Muh, its just a game." And no, its not just a mistake to buy gold. You know what you are doing and you should get the punishment for it. It's not like they did something funny that was bannable at the same time like Dalrods Rod of Transformation that makes your character look like your acutal character while stillt being in catform. THAT is kinda funny. Buying gold is NOT.

For me mistake would if somebody gets gold from a shady source for free (he actually didnt buy the gold but it still was in his mailbox) and just takes it without consideration. THAT would be a mistake, a stupid one, but a sincere mistake without any bad intentions). Buying gold is cutting edges.

Would you give raiders a warning who deliberately reset MC over and over again to gain HUGE amounts of items? I would banhammer them. They knew they are breaking the rules and they knew they hurt their fellow people. 

The biggest thing for me to ban all buyers is: You indirectly promote and help people getting hacked. You have no consideration for your fellow players who get hacked by the gold buyers. You just dont care and they can go to hell so you as a selfish guy can have some fun with your hacked gold. GG EZ

As a Chinese that is studying in the US, I can give you some numbers.

About 80% of the Chinese are players that played Vanilla WoW originally and now have families/jobs, so they are mostly raidloggers that get online 2-3 days a week for 3hrs, which means, alot of them will buy gold. I don't know numbers, but probly 50% of them.

The rest 20%, are younger folks/people who dont have a regular job, and is making money by farming gold. They play considerably more every day and is the real gold farmers.

So its a misconception for people to think the majority of the Chinese are making a living to play this game. Lol no.
