There are other ways. - I agree that a rollback might be the fastest and easiest way out of it. Its just a massive risk to take.

Let's say the non roll back method requires hours of reading logs and what not, and takes up to 3-4 days. (server downtime)

 

Would you rather not play for those 3-4 days or take a 7 hour roll back?

I can make 7 hours up pretty easily.

People need to stop bitching. I barely even play on this server and seeing this many children complaining about lost hours is hilarious. This bug will literally ruin the economy if left unchanged... and the amount of instant 60s could be server breaking as well. Fixing the problem on an individual account basis is not only tedious and time consuming.. but might even be impossible. You don't pay for this server. Even if you donated (I don't even know if they take donations) you really have no right to complain about a passion project ran by volunteers no matter how many hours you've logged. You can easily make up those lost hours.. you can't unfuck an economy that got flooded with millions of gold that fast.

Quite obvious. The reality that not everyone has the same spending limits to what amount of wow they consume.  
So being that reality that not everyone "can just play" 7 hours off easily. - He operates around his own understanding based in his own narrow perspective.

Wow really? I put in 5 hours today after work. That's the most I've played in about 2 months. Did loads of quests went up 2 levels got some nice drops.... all goneeeeee

Funny, how do you think the owners of this server feel?

This isn't blizzard you tool, these guys are doing this on their free time, they have jobs too.

if a roll back makes their life easier because they lack the time to really go back and check logs and what not, then they will do what's best.

It's true though. We would have to go back into the logs and examine every single player that could have been affected by this. And this is something that all GM's do not even have access to, so only a portion of the GM team would be able to work on this. The server would definitely need to be down while the staff went over everyone's data and manually adjusting each player. A rollback isn't a perfect solution, but in this case, it is the best solution we have.

No.  7 hours of play time is negligible.  Shutting the server down for 4 days instead is not.

The project is now open source, Elysium devs appear to be welcoming outside help with each upcoming development update.  I'm sure there are plenty of people who could volunteer to read through logs to determine the incorrect loot distributed during this 184 seconds if it meant saving thousands of players up to 7 hours of time each (and in many cases more if an insanely rare item had dropped for you which is worth more than "7 hours")  

I agree with you that the devs alone shouldn't have to give up their time to sort this all out the hard way, but I think the decision made is rash.  They've even said they have identified 54 players who have benefitted from the exploit, and they know the timeframe the mobs were bugged - I think a better explanation of why this couldn't be resolved involving these players alone is warranted.
