I have surfed through some topics on the forums, and I can't help but feeling that there is a significant number of bad mannered players, toxic ones aka. "Trolls"

and to my amazement it included GM replies to topics in a sarcastic manner, I have been to numerous private servers, and I do understand that toxic people are bound to exist, but here it feels that this community is mostly run by trolls.

I'm saying this out of what I have seen in-game and out-of-game, I really hope that what I have seen is merely a tiny fraction of the community and that they do not represent the whole community.

Can you give some references or insight into how you came to this conclusion? Every community has trolls, but I feel like they are very quickly identified here and not to be taken seriously.

Bebo's right. The general aura of complaining and blaming on this forum is reminiscent of nurse/teacher breakrooms, where once you start hanging around the negative people you eventually get sucked into the negativity. No one is saying "please stop, it offends me!" But it still sucks, and I'd like to see it change.

Have you never been a part of any online gaming community?  This forum is extremely tame.  Worst  cast scenario someone calls you a idiot or something.

Take a look at official WoW forums or a fansite like MMO-Champion. I'm sure you'll find toxic behaviour there as well.

Just compare the Nostalrius forum with Elysium forum. Take a class subform for example. The tone of discussion is almost the same, sometimes better on Elysium, sometimes better on Nostalrius. I would argue that this is normal. This is madness. This is... INTERNET!!!!

I'm not saying there aren't toxic players on Darrowshire, but for the most part it's an amazing community. I have come across more helpful and friendly players there in a short time than I did my last five years of retail. People are always willing to help newer players with questions in WC or help others with group quests and so on. After you put the few racists and trolls on ignore it's great. If you want a good community, roll on Darrowshire. I can't say the same for Elysium so I'll just leave it at that. 

Also, is it my imagination or am I seeing a new influx of horde on Darrowshire?

No, you are not wrong from what you have seen, unfortunately everyone tells you it is just tiny fraction while in reality is the opposite.

This happening only within private servers including and mostly in Elysium , reality i am afraid is that.

Anywhere outside of Private servers and mainly outside of Elysium is completely different by huge margins , i tried/tested and seen, people in the Private Server scene are influenced 90% by this Toxic disease and i am afraid there is no way out of this , only way is when some project comes out with anti trolling solution which is unlikely to happen , the issue is too complex and really bad.

80% of your time you will always struggling with Toxic Trolls and no action will ever be taken against them , they can be Toxic even without insulting you but in a manner of demoralizing you and turn out any negative attitude toward you.

Of course anything with "free" attached to it brings the sleaze of the slums. It's like PS3 when it was free was a very toxic community also full of children where Xbox online that you had to pay for had a more mature audience. Just have to deal with it if you choose to play free.

Elysium can only do and handle so much.

I am quite convinced now that Oakenlix is a male gay person who suppresses his sexuality!

 

I also think that "the forum's full of garbage but the game is fine" is totally true. The forum is almost useless if you want to get an idea about how the ingame community thinks and works.

And as a sidenote... that's why I have left the project and deleted my druid. Because that 25 gold respec bullshit has been decided in a PvP forum thread which is the last place where 99% of the community hangs out.

helping with the core, bug fixes and stuff like that... I would compare myself with people who do not raid, level, or anything and just play the auction house as an economy simulation. Helping an open source project still is something I enjoy very much.

Toxicity fuels a pvp community, it provides emotional consent to a jagged relationship.  

For anyone who played the 19, 29, 39, 49, 60, 70  bracker for twinks from BC->Cata.  The forums where the wild wild west.  It was awful.  It was also beautiful.   I don't enjoy it when everyone is giving e-hugs and saying nice things to each other every damn post.  Be a human ffs.  Be a wow player too.  If you cant handle the heat, don't get the coal under your feet.  

The twink threads where crazy, if you find old wow archives of the forums, you would be in disbelief.  That was a lawless wasteland.
