Aekae 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 Hi, played vanilla back in the day and so excited to join the community and relive the good ol' days. But starting fresh means zero gold, especially remembering the cost of mounts and other things. So does anyone have tips, guides, or just general insight on how to make gold without becoming a farmer and spending more time actually enjoying the game? Thanks!
Destron 2 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 Welcome to the community! This is my first go at the Vanilla content since it was live and I was 15. But from my research the basic idea here is to be as frugal as possible. Only update the skills you will use, only buy upgrades if you need them. Range will be a cheaper 1st level rather than melee since melee are much more gear dependent. if it has a market on the AH, sell it there. Others may have more insight here but leveling certain Trades as you level will drain your funds with relatively little gain, BS comes to mind. Good luck out there!
ironskillet2 2 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 to start, id pick up enchanting, and sell the mats / enchants to fellow levelers, but unless you plan on getting rare raid enchants, id drop it once your 60 for herbalism/alchemy or tailoring/herb. but again, if you are going to be the officer or GM of a raiding guild, keep ench or blacksmithing and snag hopefully a server first recipe then make thousands of gold literally lol
Aekae 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 Plan on going hunter with herb/alchemy and along the leveling process sell the herbs/potions i make. I did this back when i played and it worked out ok, just didn't know how much had really changed or there had been different methods that worked better.
sojs 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 from 38-40 grind only beast type mobs and sell their gray items and you will have enough money to get a mount, basilisk type mobs are the best for this on average you get 10-15 silver per kill
Drain 19 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 I'd suggest engineering to make your own ammo. Making potions isn't going to go as far as you might be hoping. Plants are over farmed 24 7, more so than ore veins. Potions are also optional. Ammo is not. The engineering rounds fyi cost less in mat value than AV ammo, yet have a higher DPS. The AV ammo is Chinese ammo, that is to say, overpriced yet weaker, it's for stupid people. Next, avoid repair bills in raiding. With FD, there's little reason for you to take gear damage. When you know a wipe is coming, you can FD, drop combat, then instant strip all your gear with 1 button press using a mod. I rarely paid repair bills, even if my guild wiped all night. On top of cheap ammo, I didn't pay repairs. If you're taking skinning... consider farming beasts in WS or Felwood. The bears in WS drop eko for FIRE RESIST buffs. The beasts in Felwood drop mats to cleanse the plants there, allowing you get their food, which makes for cheap water or potions. The main value of the potions however is that they do not share a CD with regular potions. They are in a different group, instead sharing a CD with Warlock/Mage stones, or the crystals out of Ungoro. A Warlock/Mage can double potion using their own stones. Anyone else can do this using Felwood plants, although to a much lesser effect. http://db.vanillagaming.org/?search=e%27ko#quests http://db.vanillagaming.org/?item=11516#wh-comments

cryofsorrow 5 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) First rule about farm club....... +++ Ican, herbalism is a good choice and it's really profitable but you will need 100% mount to make it even better. Don't mind what other people say that herb nodes are camped 24/7, most of these are lazy people. 30-45 minutes of doing circles in the proper zones yields few stacks of herbs that sells for good coin or you can make good batch of potions out of them. Obviously, some times you'll get bad luck with herbing but there's always something to get while strolling around. If you're rolling on the PvP realms, be cautious - there are those guys that I call the farm police, they go in groups of 3+ and they're bad mofos. Don't try to farm Black Lotus by the way, it just boils down to 'being in the right place in the right time' thing. Or, you can check the AH prices of some of the more expensive materials if you fancy farming mobs. And get Gatherer addon for herbalism. And if they do have it, they are saving up for their own epic mount. Best is to find something that vendors well. I've got my own list for this. Tholren 7 Report post Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) So much talk about money, this is starting to sound like a Blizzard priority meeting. Jokes aside, my plan is pretty generic. Since I'm playing Rogue I'll pick up Skinning/Leatherworking, and I'll only sell excess skins, so apart from some greens I might be able to craft and sell on the AH I won't have many sources of income apart from farming in good spots as I level, vendoring/AH the grays and greens (please blues) I get during those farm sessions, hopefully I won't be too unlucky. The real money making plans start at 60. Edited November 25, 2016 by Tholren

They commonly drop greys that vendor for 7s and 8s each, and there is a neutral vendor right near the area where you farm. I found the drop rate to be much more reliable than basilisks, and a good place to just grind from 37-40 while also grinding money for your mount.

Xom 8 Report post Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) 1. Invest all of your early leveling gold into new bags. Get Runecloth bags ASAP. Every time to go to town check to see if there are any on the AH to upgrade from the ones you could currently afford. Priority is picking up EVERYTHING. 2. Whatever tradeskills you decide to pick, get Skinning from 1-40~ (when you buy your mount). The steady income from skinning Beasts is great for the early part when you will literally just vendor everything you skin. Maybe save some Medium/Heavy/Thick for the AH but it's mostly about the extra income per mob you'd be killing anyway. Then respec to your chosen profession after you get your mount - if you don't plan on Skinning at 60. For instance, when I did Engineering I would mail all my ore/stone to a bank alt and when I got my mount I powerleveled my Engi with all the saved materials. Skinning actually came in doubly handy since I could use skins for Engi recipes. I kept Skinning until I was out of Un'Goro since there is such a ridiculous amount of skinnable mobs from Barrens>Shimmering Flats>STV>Tanaris>Hinterlants>Un'Goro. Turtles in Hinterlands and Tanaris are very profitable with Skinning and will give you a great place to grind for the last few gold you need for your mount. 3. Make a Bank Alt. You will get drops and materials which are worth selling on the AH and it saves you some clutter to have all your resources/reagents/materials stocked someplace tidy. This is prettymuch mandatory too, if you're stashing hundreds of stones/ore/herbs for power leveling later. It's much easier and effective to stockpile items in the mail to/from your bank alt and in their bank rather than just having to vendor everything you find. Yes, it is a cost to send items to your bank alt and then AH it, so be aware of which items are worth saving to sell and which are more worth just vendoring right away. Leaving materials in the mailbox gives you more room in your bags/bank. Just keep an eye on the expiration date. A bit of a longer term plan would be using your Bank Alt's professions as well. I was a big fan of making a Priest alt with Tailor/Enchanting and I could just disenchant all the high-level greens and make bags and other items for the AH. You can make a pretty penny selling bags and enchanting materials from things you found with your main as they were leveling - even moreso once you're at 60 getting high level greens. It also helps if you have a hunger for slaughtering mobs. Edited November 27, 2016 by Xom

Knetik 2 Report post Posted November 28, 2016 As everyone has said, the basics are being frugal with money, pick up gather professions, and utilize your abilities. However, the best way to make gold will always be AH manipulation. When you get the hang of this, everything else is a waste of time. When it comes to this avenue, we are working with a living economy so you have to find your vein and run it. The best gold making techniques will never be given out as they lose their value if others use them.
