Notice of Claim of Copyright Infringement from Comcast

Recommended Posts

All,

I recently started playing Elysium and have been loving the old school Warcraft experience, but I got an email from Comcast stating the following:

Comcast has received a notification by a copyright owner, or its authorized agent, reporting an alleged infringement of one or more copyrighted works made on or over Comcast's High-Speed Internet service (the 'Service'). The copyright owner has identified the Internet Protocol ('IP') address associated with your Service account at the time as the source of the infringing works. The works identified by the copyright owner in its notification are listed below. Comcast reminds you that use of the Service (or any part of the Service) in any manner that constitutes an infringement of any copyrighted work is a violation of Comcast's Acceptable Use Policy and may result in the suspension or termination of your Service account.

Copyright work(s) identified in the notification of claimed infringement: Infringing Work: WARCRAFT

Filename: World of Warcraft 1.12 Client.rar

Infringement Date: 2017-04-10T01:06:48.78Z

Infringement Type: Game

Infringement Method: P2P IP Address:  ........

Reporting Party: [email protected]

Reporting Party Case: ......

Should I be concerned about this?  I was quite surprised by it.  I don't want to get my service with Comcast cancelled for playing.  Just curious if others have had this happen.

Thanks!

I think its due to the torrent you dloaded.

Or the exe w/e. The thingos that it's not about playing the game once you have it.

Comcast doesn't like it's members downloading from specific websites and what not.    They've had of history of canceling people's service and hitting them with the an early termination fee for breach of contract (after many warnings). Specifically previous heavy users of Piratebay.

Just be more mindful of where you download things from.

Comcast likes to scare people. My cousin gets letters like this all the time and they have never done anything to him. That is over the course of 6 years or so.

Hi wualumni,

Don't panic, this email is in reference to you downloading the game (I assume you used a torrent site) be mindful of downloading future torrent files or you'll likley get more emails.  As for wow, seeing as you've already downloaded the client now there is no issue in you using it, you can play safely and not worry.

Torrents are originally illegal , whoever uses them in "Western Democracy" will be victim of censorship.

Try to find alternative or spread to everyone in order to fight against censorship (something that china and north korea currently have).

Torrents are legal as long has you are using it that way. You can download Linux distros and other open source software that way.

Use a VPN for illegal downloads if you are using a big name ISP like Comsuck.

Nope. Using torrents is totally legal. Sharing copyrighted content is not.

Correct. Finally someone who actually knows something and isn't blowing steam out of their ass.

Downloading torrents is NOT illegal. HOSTING the torrent is. You WILL NOT get in trouble for downloading this. Still, you should download from the elysium website to be safe (for virus' and what-not).

What I do is start the torrent, and change the "upload" speed (sometimes called 'seed speed' and other variations) to as low of a number as you can. My minimum is 1kbp. This means that I'm hosting/seeing/uploading this as slow as possible (but still downloading at max speed) meaning that if I was the only seed, it would literally take you a year to download.

The only time you should worry about the legality of things is if you torrent a lot of stuff. I torrent my music and game launchers. That's it. If you want to watch a movie, stream that shit boii, it's 2k17 man, get with the times and stop wasting space on your hard drive for porn. You can stream that shit too.

As soon as the torrent which contains copyrighted material hits 100%, you are commiting copyright infringement. And no, you can't get away with putting it on snail speed upload.

It means they're trolling the torrent, which they can do. So just stop seeding it after you've gotten yours. They can't do anything about you playing once you have it downloaded.

I've gotten emails even with my upload speed disabled (0.0kb/s) and my upload slots at 0/0.

It seems they just scan connected IPs and mass send emails, regardless of upload/download status.

Change the ISP company and let them get rekt for doing it.

Problem solved.

You're breaking the law as soon as you upload .01% of a copyrighted file. The problem is your torrent client starts to upload pieces of the file as soon as they're downloaded.

Lol, it only happens when you torrent the client from utorrent.

Nothing will happen, just use a VPN next time when torrenting stuff.

fun fact: I have'n seen Blizzard writing ANY kind of post that would have undone their original guide on the 2005 - xxxx WoW guest pass:

"Give this code to a friend and BORROW YOUR OWN CD'S FOR HIM SO HE CAN INSTALL WOW AND YOU CAN PLAY TOGETHER FOR 10 DAYS".

How's borrowing my CD's different (bitwise) from shareing as torrent?

Best solution is , change the company with Admission : Fuck off with your control over what i am downloading.

This work extremely well everywhere in the world , when ISP company see that it is loosing it's customers , they will be forced to stop doing that.

Replace it with new one and enjoy free , you should never be scared from that , they should be scared from loosing it's customers!

Unless you want to remain like a flock and continue supporting what your ISP company is doing to you!.

I do that  and it work like shiny purple flowers!
